What is FHRI Membership?

FHRI is a membership organization consisting of all individuals and groups of individuals and/ organizations that subscribe to the aims and objectives of the Foundation for Human Rights Initiative. The membership which constitutes the General Assembly brings together skills, knowledge, resources and commitment for the good of the Foundation. The General Assembly is the supreme policy making organ of the Foundation.

The membership of FHRI has over 1,500 people from most of the districts in Uganda and has expanded across the border to Tanzania, Kenya, Rwanda and USA. This development indicates a growth of the human rights movement. Over the years, members have contributed to realizing FHRI objectives through collection of human rights information, promotion of the aims of FHRI and fundraising.

Purpose of FHRI Membership:

FHRI membership brings together people having a mutual stake and with a strong commitment to FHRI’s vision, mission and objectives. The reason for all of this commitment to FHRI is the recognition of the principle that respect, protection, promotion and observance of human rights as set out in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights is foundational and not supplemental to all that is done by individuals and the organization.

FHRI’s membership supports the organisational programme from the grass roots up. This is strengthened by creation of platforms for membership development, reflection and participation.

The Organisational Structure

FHRI’s organisational structure comprises the General Assembly, Board of Trustees, Board of Directors and the Secretariat.

The General Assembly is the supreme governing body of FHRI, the Board of Trustees are the custodians of FHRI property and Constitution, the Board of Directors formulates and supervises policy and programme implementation while the Secretariat is the implementing arm headed by the Executive Director.
