On 31st March 2026, the Foundation for Human Rights Initiative (FHRI) hosted Cohort 11 fellows from the Makerere University Rotary Peace Centre the first Rotary Peace Centre established in Africa.
The fellows, who are undertaking studies in peace and conflict resolution, attended a lecture delivered by Dr. Livingstone Sewanyana, Executive Director of FHRI. His presentation focused on “The Role of Key Actors in Human Rights Observance: Human Rights Institutions and the Mechanisms They Use.”
The participants from the cohort comprised of 20 fellows drawn from 19 countries across Africa and beyond, with diverse academic and professional backgrounds. The Centre adopts an experiential learning approach, combining classroom instruction with practical engagement led by seasoned practitioners. As part of their training, fellows are also required to design and implement Social Change Initiatives aligned with thematic areas of their choice
